Presence of white patches on your baby’s tongue may be one of 2 things. It may be breastmilk patches; this is easily removed with cotton wool. It can also be a fungal infection called oral thrush.

Oral thrush is common in:

1. Premature babies
2. Baby with fever
3. A baby that is using or has just used antibiotics
4. Baby of a mother on antibiotics

What you can do

1. Clean your baby’s toys regularly with warm water and antiseptics
2. Clean the cups, bottles, spoons you use for your baby regularly
3. Wash your hands regularly especially after changing your baby’s nappy
4. Take your child to see a doctor
