- Clean the cord regularly with warm water and soap
- You may wipe with methylated spirit
- Do not pull the cord even if it is dry
- Do not put engine oil on the cord
- Do not cover the cord with diapers, it may make it to bleed
- If it does not fall off by 3 weeks or if there are signs that the cord is infected, please take your baby to a doctor.
Signs of umbilical cord infection
- Bleeding from the cord
- Foul smell around the cord
- Foul discharge from the cord
- The skin around the cord is swollen and red
