- Excessive sweating
- High body temperature
- Vomiting, diarrhea
- Excessive urination e.g. in people with diabetes
- Alcohol intake
- Intake of some drugs e.g. hypertension drugs for example moduretic
What you may notice
Symptoms depend on the severity of dehydration, and the rate at which it developed. Dehydration develops rapidly in children, and the symptoms are more severe in children and the elderly. Symptoms may include;
- Dry mouth
- Thirst
- Reduction in urine quantity
- Passage of concentrated (deep) urine
- Headache
- Weakness with or without dizziness
- Warm body
What you can do
- Take enough water, at least 3 liters per day
- Avoid intake of alcohol and other possible precipitants
- Intake of oral rehydration solution helps
- Note that intake of soft drinks may relieve thirst temporarily, but it may worsen the dehydration.
- Visit your doctor especially if you feel faint or dizzy or if your urine quantity has reduced.
