- Abnormal location of the placenta called placenta previa
- Injury or tearing of the placenta called abruption placenta
- Fibroid in pregnancy
- Rupture of the womb; common in people that have done a caesarean or fibroid operation before
- Infection of the vagina or cervix (mouth of the womb)
Whatever the cause, it is important to visit a doctor. He will examine you and may ask you to do tests and an obstetric scan. In the meantime you need to;
- Ensure bed rest, avoid standing and bending
- Avoid lifting of load
- Avoid sexual intercourse
- Avoid douching, and avoid use of tampon
- Drink water frequently
