Sex during pregnancy is safe for the mother and the baby if the intercourse is non-violent. A man’s penis will not penetrate beyond your vagina. Also, your baby floats easily in and is supported by the water around it.

- if you are bleeding from the vagina
- if you notice passage of clear fluid (water around the baby) through your vagina
- if your baby’s placenta is lying low; this will be detected during scan
- if you have just given birth especially if you had a cut or episiotomy.
Sex positions advised during pregnancy
The missionary position where the woman lies on her back is not advised because the baby can be compressed, and it is not convenient. The positions advised are many, few examples including
- the pregnant woman lies on her side while the man lie behind her or in front of her
- the pregnant woman can be on top of the man
- The pregnant woman can lean on a couch while the man penetrates from behind.
