Fever means high body temperature.  The normal body temperature is between 36.6 and 37.4⁰Celsius. When the measured body temperature is more than 37.4⁰C, the person has high temperature.

How to check the body temperature

1. People often feel the person’s forehead; this may give false information because it only tells the temperature difference between your hand and the person’s forehead.
2. Use a thermometer, this is the standard way. Get a digital thermometer. You can put the bulb of the thermometer under the tongue, in the armpit or in the anus. Keep the thermometer in place for 2 minutes or until it beeps, then check the reading. Wipe the thermometer with methylated spirit after use

The body temperature may be falsely high

1. In hot weather
2. After a hot bath
3. After exercise
4. After a sleepless night
5. When excessively clothed
