The home is the site of many accidents; common examples include sprains, burns, cuts, stings. The outcome of such accidents depends on what is done within minutes of the accident.

First aid kits are handy and contain the basic items for addressing common accidents. The content vary and depend on where it is to be used; the home, car or office. Some kits are pre-packed, you can however pack yours.

The Red Cross recommends that all household kits contain the following;

1. 2 pairs of gloves
2. Scissors
3. 5 sterile gauzes
4. A thermometer
5. Bandages
6. Hydrocortisone ointment
7. A cold compress
8. Packet of aspirin
9. Antiseptic wipes and lotion
10. Antibiotic ointment
11. Your hospital card and contact number
12. List of medications that any family member is on
13. Calamine lotion
14. Piriton tablet and syrup
15. Oral rehydration salt
16. Antacid suspension
17. Flashlight

The kit and its content should be reviewed monthly, remove expired drugs.
