- Pain and swelling at the site of bite
- There may be fang marks at the site
- There may be swelling extending beyond the site, e.g. the whole leg may be swollen
- There may be color change or darkening of the limb
- The person’s voice may become cloudy or hoarse
- The urine may appear like blood: red or dark
- There may be weakness
What you can do before getting to the hospital
Arrange for an urgent transport to the hospital
- Take the person away from the area, rescue him or her before hunting the snake
- Help the person to stay still, reduce movement of the site of bite
- Do not give the person any drink, herbs or alcohol
- Do not cut the site with blade
- Do not attempt to suck the venom
- Do not tie cloth to occlude the area above the site
- Keep the site below the level of the heart e.g. put the leg down if the site is on the leg
